One Simple Trick to Increase Your Website Engagement

Posted on Posted in Blogs

Maybe this is you… you’ve spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars redesigning and building a brand new website. Everything looks amazing, it has great visuals, and every page gleams with a modern flair. Now that it’s launched, you sit back and wait for the hoards of people to start visiting, sharing, and reading about all the good things your business is doing.

Except no one is.

I presume it went down something like this.  Initially, there was an influx of friends and colleges visiting to see what was new, but after the ‘shine’ wore off, you are faced with a steep decline of traffic. No one is visiting. No one is sharing. Did you forget something, or make a major faux pa? It’s possible, though the likely answer is simpler than you think…

… and when I said simpler, I really, honestly meant simpler. The real reason no one is visiting your site is because you aren’t actually posting content that people want to see.

Once you’ve moved on past the shock and offense this may have caused, you need to take a real, objective view at what you are posting.

Ask yourself these questions

  1. If i came across this content on another site, would I read it and find it interesting?
  2. Does the current content capture peoples attention and cause them to want to read it in it’s entirety?
  3. Does my content contribute something different, or is it the same as every other site?
  4. Would I share this?

If you answered no to any of these questions, there’s your answer. Websites that feature boring, stale content aren’t going to get hoards of visitors. You may have an amazing business and are doing amazing things, but if the first impression you leave with people is dull and drab, they have no reason to come back.

If you want the masses visiting your website, write some compelling stories. Post videos and photos. Capture testimonies what’s happening. Make it a point to post new content regularly, and let people know so they will visit often. If your business is truly compelling your website should be able to capture that. Don’t be afraid to take a critical look at your website and draft a new content plan.

People are looking for amazing things to share. With a little thought, you can be the place they go to find it.
